In yet another announcement from Qantas, the airlines major from Australia, direct flights connecting Sydney and Gladstone has been promised. Starting March 4th 2013, when the flights will become operational, a total of eight round trip flight a week will make it possible for travelers to travel to and fro with a direct flight connecting the two destinations. An increase of nearly 1200 seats per week will be available when the flights become operational and will mainly cater to the demand of the business travelers who frequent this route. Along with that announcement Qantas has also promised that they are increasing their capacity for the other regional NSW routes that they currently service.
While announcing these new flights, Qantas Domestic CEO Lyell Strambi mentioned that they have always had a commitment towards servicing Gladstone and the recent flights are just a way of reaffirming what they have been doing for the last three decades. It is true that Gladstone gets more attention from QantasLink than any other airline. Travelers flying out of Gladstone have the widest number of options from QantasLink than any other airline. Since the start of 2012 they also have access to one of the largest regional lounges in Gladstone which can accommodate up to 80 passengers. Additionally with the introduction of Boeing 717, travelers flying to Brisbane now have more availability than before even during peak hours.
Mr. Strambi also declared that Qantas will now connect six major ports with direct flights from Gladstone. These are Rockhampton, Cairns, Townsville, Sydney, Mackay and Brisbane.
QantasLink has been acquiring the 74 seater Q400 aircrafts for its expanding fleet and the flight servicing the Sydney – Gladstone route will be operated by one these; the 28th and the newest member of its growing Q400 fleet.
To celebrate the commitment towards Gladstone and to make this announcement a special one, QantasLink has announced a special introductory offer $79 for a one-way ticket which will be valid for travels from March 4th 2013 through August 31, 2013.
