The 2012 NSW Tourism Awards saw one of the youngest businesses ever to win an award at the gala event held at the Le Montage in Lilyfield. Sydney Coast Walks, a walking tour company, won a Bronze award at the Ecotourism category. This three year old family owned & run Eco Accredited business also won two more nominations in the Adventure Tourism and the Tour Operator categories.

There is an increasing trend, the world over, for sustainable low-impact ecotourism products and young businesses like Sydney Coast Walks are increasingly coming at the forefront with products that are creating a lot of buzz.

Walking tours are one of the most popular ecologically sustainable ways of enjoying a natural area. Companies such as Sydney Coast Walks help to quench the thirst of nature lovers while ensuring, with clever product designing and tour management, that they create as less impact on the natural area they intrude as possible.

Sydney Coast Walks employ several methods to adhere to their motto of low impact tourism. They ensure that most of their tours are accessible via public transport, they also compost catering scraps and educate guests prior to departing, about the best ways to leave a zero impact on the environment they will be passing through.

Sydney Coast Walks is one of the few walking tour companies which pioneered guided tour walks in the Royal National Park. Three years ago they were one of the first companies to receive a 10 year Premium ECOPass from the National Parks and Wildlife Service. Today they are conducting one of the pioneering Sydney Harbour National Park guided walking tour programs. Recently the company re-branded itself (it was formerly known as Royal Coast Walks) to ensure that their growing walking tour programs can be properly reflected in their name. Many of the renowned walking trails in the Sydney Harbour National Park are now being offered by the company as a part of half-day to two-day programs starting from Manly, Cronulla and Watson’s Bay.

Founder Ian Wells appreciated the recognition and mentioned that the niche that they offer is immensely popular among their guests, who genuinely love and care for the environment that they are treading on. As walking tours continues to grow in popularity, Sydney Coast Walks has established itself as an expert in the Royal National Park and the Sydney Harbour National Park areas. They have won accolades and recognitions in the local, regional and now even at the state levels. They were one of the youngest finalists at the NSW Tourism Award 2011 (when they were only two) and won the Ecotourism award at the 2012 Greater Sydney Tourism Awards.
