Australian Traveller, the leading travel magazine in Australia, has come out with a special collector’s edition of their magazine, which went on sale from today. It lists 100 of the best travel secrets from Australia. Topping the list is Whites Beach in Byron Bay, one of the many stunning beaches that Australia has.
The top ten however had a few surprises, such as the Emirates Wolgan Valley Resort and Spa, which could easily be considered as the most expensive secret in Australia and of course Wilpena Pound, a natural spectacle that is both stunning and less-traveled. The Wilpena Pound is an oval shaped area in South Australia that is large enough to fit in six Ulurus.
If you are looking for ‘The World’s Best Limoncello’ then a small road side eatery boasts the same as per the latest edition of the Australian Traveller. The Blue Mountains are where the ‘ultimate secret treehouse’ was discovered, while South Australia also boasts of a ‘fairytale’ castle-cum-luxury hotel. If your definition of a vacation means spending time on a desolate islands then the current edition of the magazine boasts some of the best kept secret islands in Australia including the Maria Island, Fitzroy Island and Cocos (Keeling) Islands.
Georgia Rickard, editor of Australian Traveller, while speaking on the occasion stated that the list only reaffirms the fact that Australia is a traveler’s paradise, offering more diversity in travel destinations than one can possibly see in a lifetime. It also shows that it is not always necessary to travel to already over crowded destinations and or pay extra in order to book a vacation to remember. Australia is a country that is dotted with destinations that are simply amazing and offers travelers an absolutely memorable vacation experience in any budget.
Ms. Rickard also mentioned that selecting the 100 best travel secrets was not easy as they had received no less than 1000 nominations from travelers. The final list of 100 was selected by a panel containing 11 extremely revered travel experts, who have together clocked several thousand miles traveling the length and breadth of the country. The list includes – Catriona Rowntree, Pat Rafter, Tony Wheeler, Dr Chris Brown, Kate Ritchie, Camilla Franks, Tim ‘Rosso’ Ross, Daniel Scott, Sonia Kruger, Andrew McEvoy and last but not the least the editor of Australian Traveller, Georgia Rickard. Suggestions were received from domestic and international travelers, tour operators and readers of the magazine and they were truly diverse. Such as one interesting suggestion that nominated the underground escalator at Sydney’s Domain carpark. The final shortlist was then voted on by the panel in secrecy.
