Dusit Smiles has till date raised more than 3 Million THB used for medical costs including surgeries of the children plagued with this facial deformity and also for transporting the children and their families pre and post surgery. It is pertinent to note that the surgeons, attending nurses and the hospital staff attached with this humane endeavour are all volunteers.

Speaking on the occasion Mr David Shackleton, COO of Dusit International mentioned that being a Thai organization it is not only a duty but also a responsibility for them to give something back to the community. The reason why Dusit International felt that Operation Smile Thailand is the right organization to partner with is because of their noble ideals, backed by an incredibly dedicated staff and the noteworthy results achieved by the organization in bringing about a smile on the faces of these deserving children.

Operation Smile Thailand has been toiling patiently since 1997, till date treating more than 7000 children plagued with facial deformities. Cleft lip or cleft palate is a deformity that prevents children from leading a normal life, creating problems while speaking, drinking, eating and even breathing. Many children when left untreated have a harrowing childhood, often suffering with psychological and medical issues and even malnutrition. In Thailand one in every 600 child is born with a cleft lip or a cleft palate. A surgery of only 60 minutes is all that it takes to change the child’s life for ever and help him lead a normal life.
