Kiwi music legend Dave Dobbyn has been roped in to perform at the American Express Queenstown Winter Festival. He will be giving a solo performance on the opening night of the festivities to be held on Friday June 21st. A living legend, Dave Dobbyn has been widely considered as one of the best Kiwi singers alive with several awards and accolades on his glittering trophy wall. His songs including ‘Loyal’ and ‘Welcome Home’ are extremely popular at both home and aboard. Many of his seven studio albums have seen platinum plus record sales with the ‘Loyal’ polled as the best Kiwi song ever. He is also the winner of the highest number of accolades and awards as a song writer, more than any other Kiwi till date. Dave is also a winner of APRA (Australasia Performing Right Association) Lifetime Achievement Award. It is indeed a big boost for the opening night of the American Express Queenstown Winter Festival to have a personality like Dave Dobbyn lead the festivities.
Dave will be joined in by several other guests on stage at the Earnslaw Park for a performance of ‘Slice of Heaven’. The festivities will then officially resume at 7.00 PM with a spectacular display of fireworks that will light up the night sky over Queenstown Bay. Dave will then return to the stage to give a solo performance of some of his best hits.
Speaking on behalf of the American Express Queenstown Winter Festival, manager Lisa Buckingham said that Dave’s presence is going to add a dash of spice to this very popular event. Dave’s hits will no doubt set the tone for the rest of the festivities, energizing the thousands of spectators expected to visit the waterfront. It is indeed a privilege to have a music legend of Dave’s stature to open southern hemisphere’s biggest winter festivities, singing some of his best songs against a mesmerizing backdrop of Queensland’s Alpine scenery.
Also to grace with their presence are going to be popular Kiwi comedians Urzila Carlson and Paul Ego. They are specially coming in for the festival’s NZ Comedy Gala to be held on June 25th. Apart from them a number of local performers including the Wakatipu High rock band The Fletcherz and the winners of recent Queenstown original song contest Songstars will also be giving performances starting 5.30 PM every evening.
The American Express Queenstown Winter Festival opening party and fireworks display on the same evening is the start of ten day long festivities also known as ‘New Zealand’s Ten Coolest Days’. It showcases Queensland’s unique culture, songs, music, comedy, theatre, concerts and much more.
