In the recently released 2014 James Halliday Australian Wine Companion, Canberra District’s Four Winds Vineyard has been positioned as a five-star winery. Bill Crowe, winemaker at the Four Winds Vineyard, acknowledged the rating adding that this is indeed a great honour for the family owned vineyard and winery.
Mr.Crowe added that the news of the five-star rating of their vineyard has been matched, somewhat, by the news that the 2012 Riesling achieved 94 points. Unfortunately, however, they have sold out the 2012 Riesling last weekend. He however acknowledged that the 2013 is in bottle, which he personally feels is better than the 2012.
Mr. Crowe also mentioned that it has always been a dream for the family owned vineyard and winery to achieve the coveted five-star rating and he is happy that the acknowledgement has finally come in the year they have opened a new cellar door. He added that it is particularly satisfying that they have been able to join the ranks of some of their five-star neighbours such as Clonakilla, Collector Wines, Eden Road and Helm.
The Wine Companion says that the five star rating is given to an ‘outstanding winery capable of producing wines of very high quality, and did so this year. Also will usually have at least two wines rated at 94 points or above.’
Four Winds Vineyard is strategically located in the Canberra District near Murrumbateman. They throw open their cellar doors regularly on weekends and on public holidays serving fine wines and wood fired pizzas.
