Qantas Launches New Android App and Adds Google Now to Their Mobile Products

Qantas released the highly successful Qantas Airways iPhone app last May and has now followed it up with the launch of its Android™ version, becoming in the process, the first Australian airline to integrate Google Now for its passengers.

With the addition of the Android™ app Qantas now has a complete suite of mobile apps one each for each of the key operating platforms – iOS®, Android and Windows.

The Android application does the same functions as the other versions do, allowing customers to book flights, hotels, check their frequent flyer points balance as well as check-in, all using one single app.

The integration of Google Now with the Qantas app is now going to make life all that easier for customers, as they can now access all the information they need about their trip right at their fingertips. They can check details of the flight, the route that they should take to the airport, live traffic update, reminders to leave and details about the local weather in the city they are headed to.

Lyell Strambi, Chief Executive Officer, Qantas Domestic, mentioned while speaking on the occasion, that the launch of the mobile apps are a conscious effort on the part of the airline to push for more mobile bookings and check-ins and to ensure that customer’s don’t end up spending a huge amount if time in queues at the airport.

Mr. Strambi also mentioned that all the apps have been designed to ensure that customers have a much easier time when booking flights, queues are reduced at airports and that they are aware of the best deals right at the time when that information is useful for them.

It is pertinent to mentioned here that since the launch of the iPhone app in May, mobile bookings have grown by 20%.

Mr. Strambi mentioned that Australian customers are slowly waking up to the advantages of mobile check-in, the convenience of not having to stand in queue at airports and the hassle of not having to print a booking confirmation at home or boarding pass at the airport. It is now a much more seamless travel experience for them, offering them a personalized service powered by Google Now even before they step inside the airport.
