Istanbul-Turkey

Forget the old standards like San Francisco, Venice or even Paris, according to a new TripAdvisor poll, Istanbul, Turkey is the ‘hotness!’

There are a number of leisure interests that attract visitors so says Australian, Fiona Rose-Kumral, who lived in the Middle East province for 3 years.

“The reality is that it’s very easy to travel, the locals don’t hassle you or try to rip you off. The city is beautiful there is so much to see, full of energy, very cool bars, cheap, food is delicious, great architecture and history. The people are very warm so travellers would definitely enjoy and have the opportunity to talk to locals.”

Lets visit Istanbul!

Trendy Bars

Istanbul - waterfront

Though Turkey is formally a Muslim nation, the party atmosphere is still, very lively.  Most of the action and finest bars are located along the Bosphorus waterfront fit with sky-scrapper-like rooftops.

Beygolu is a focal point of the city’s night life, where weekend partygoers enjoy cocktails and revel in the festive scene.

Shopping

Istanbul / Grosser Basar

In existence since the mid-fifteenth century, the Grand Bazaar is an amazing place to shop with over 3000 stands and booths.

Great deals await you at the Old Town bazaars as well as the Arasta and Spice bazaars, where you’ll find vibrant and exotic spices, crafts, rugs and other traditional items.

Modern day books, fashion and music goods can be found at Beyoglu.

Security

Though the residences of Istanbul are welcoming, DFAT advises Australians who travel to Turkey, to employ an elevated level of vigilance owing to terrorist hazards.
