What do you expect in a New York City hotel? Luxury and all the amenities to give you the comfort of a deluxe lifestyle, right? Well, that’s not what you’ll get everywhere, sadly.
A couple from California shared a video footage of the nightmare they experienced in a renowned Manhattan hotel, warning their fellow travellers about what they are going to get for their money.
Elgin Ozlen and his girlfriend went to Manhattan to join the New Year celebration and they chose to stay in the 3-star hotel Astor on the Park. Before the bug attack, they had already been annoyed after being forced to change two rooms due to failed heating and power outlets. So, it broke their patience when they discovered oversize bed bugs swarming their room.

Ozlen recorded their appalling experience in his mobile phone and posted it on YouTube. In the video, he has been heard saying, “I wanna let everyone know, today’s my birthday and this is what my experience has been.”
Ozlen discovered several bug infestations under their bed and a cluster of ‘fifty’ bugs on a mattress corner. There were more but he did not have the patience to record them all. His girlfriend’s arm, side, and stomach were covered with rash caused by multiple bug bites. He ended the video by hoping that no one would ever visit that hotel again after watching the footage.
The tiny critters showed in the video were indeed bed bugs, confirmed by the Gothamist after consulting to an exterminator.

The hotel authority apologized to Mr Ozlen and refunded his money after the video went public. However, the New York Post contacted an employee who said he had been told not to make any comment about the incident.
The Astor on the Park hotel is located in Manhattan’s Upper West Side. It shares the same neighborhood where Hollywood stars like Matt Damon, Jerry Seinfeld, and Mariska Hargitay have homes.
