Hemsworth, who is currently promoting his new film In the Heart of the Sea, has been announced the Global Ambassador for Tourism Australia’s $45 million worth new campaign that will work on the aquatic and coastal experiences of the country.
John O’Sullivan, the Managing Director of Tourism Australia, thought that making an international star like Hemsworth a part of the campaign would promote the country’s tourism globally without sacrificing its genuine Australian voice. He said, “Chris truly embodies the Australian way of life and his love of his home country, with all its natural beauty, makes him an ideal ambassador.”

The campaign focuses on coastal and aquatic experiences that mostly resonate with Hemsworth who has grown up in an around Australian water and has the experiences of surfing, finishing, and spending family beach holidays.
Hemsworth, on the other hand, said that he was looking forward to launching the campaign. The Thor actor returned to Byron Bay last year saying that it was not a hard decision to move back Australia as the country holds a special place in his heart. He said, “This is the place I want my kids to grow up – that’s the world I want them to be part of.”
Lisa Ronson, the Chief Marketing Office of Tourism Australia, said that the Hollywood star would launch the campaign at the global premiere on Australia Day eve in New York. Tourism Australia did not disclose how much they have paid the actor for his role in the campaign and Ronson hinted that it was “just the start of a longer term partnership.”

It is not something new for Tourism Australia to make a celebrity the face of their campaigns. Before Hemsworth, Australian comedian-actor Paul Hogan and Australian fashion model Lara Bingle worked as their Global Ambassador.
