On Monday, June 13, Tourism Australia and The World’s 50 Best Restaurants have announced Melbourne, Australia, as the next host destination for The World’s 50 Best Restaurant Awards 2017.

The Chief Marketing Officer of Tourism Australia, Lisa Ronson, and The World’s 50 Best Restaurants’ Group Editor, William Drew, made the announcement at the Chefs’ Feast – a dinner for the best restaurants and chefs in the world. The World’s 50 Best Restaurant Awards 2016 was held on Tuesday, June 14, in New York.

The World’s 50 Best Restaurants features a community consisting of powerful names and pioneers in the global culinary scene. The prestigious award ceremony is held annually and the winners are chosen based on the votes of the members of The Diners Club World’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy.

Many Australian restaurants such as Momofuku Seiobo, Rockpool, Brae, Sepia, Marque, Quay, Tetsuya’s, and Attica have made their way into the prestigious list during its 14-year history.

John O’Sullivan, the Managing Director of Tourism Australia, said that such awards and event program facilitates the Restaurant Australia campaign, which will later be extended through food and wine-themed events and activities. Mr O’Sullivan also said that the world-class food and wine scenario of Australia would get much inspiration by being the host of such a prestigious event.

Group Editor of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants, William Drew, said that they are excited to choose Australia as the next host of the event because the country is already famous as a food destination.
