Whitsundays receives the award for the Best Destination in Australia


The Whitsundays has bagged the award for the Best Destination in Australia at the Golden Backpack Awards 2016.

The award ceremony was held on the Gold Coast on Sunday, November 20. A collection of 74 islands, the Whitsundays is tucked between Queensland’s northeast coast and the Great Barrier Reef. The destination has already gained traction for its white sand beaches, dense rainforest, and hiking trails. Tens of thousands of backpackers have visited the islands already and their unconditional love has helped the destination won this prestigious award.

Craig Turner, the Chief Executive Officer of Tourism Whitsundays, said that they are proud seeing the popularity of the destination among the backpackers and adventure travellers. He described the award as the recognition of the determination and hard work that the tourism operators in the region put into their products and services.

Mr Turner praised all the backpacker and adventure tourism operators for their continuous hard work and effort to provide excellent services and exclusive holiday experiences to the travellers. He acknowledged their effort in setting the destination apart from other holiday destinations in Australia.
