Thailand and Indonesia have long been favourite tourist destinations to visitors from across the world. Flocks of people also visited Iceland last year. Will there be any new destination to rule the travelling scene in 2017?

Well, News.com declares it Portugal, the southern European country that has borders with Spain. Why? Because, it makes its name into so many list of the hottest destinations in the world for 2017!

Portugal has historic cities, cobblestone villages, wonderful beaches, and lovely warm weather. Besides, the country is not very far from most of the European destinations.

You’ll get medieval glimpses in Portugal as parts of its capital Lisbon dates back to the 9th century! Anyone will be delighted after enjoying the breathtaking views from the city’s Moorish pinnacle, Castelo Sao Jorge, and exploring the Alfama neighbourhood’s meandering medieval streets.

You’ll find some of the most iconic museums and monuments of Lisbon in Belem, the beautiful waterfront neighbourhood. You can ride one of the vintage trams too, which have been gracing the Lisbon streets since the WWII, for just $3.60.

Portugal is located on the Atlantic Ocean. So, it can be well assumed that how beautiful the country’s coastline can be! The clear water and the sun-drenched sand will lure the travellers to go to the beaches. Adventure seekers can try tackling the huge swell in Nazare.

Portugal’s beaches are still largely undiscovered by international travellers. However, the number of American travellers to Portugal increased by 22% in the past year. So, the quiet beaches are unlikely to be quiet in near future, just like the Iceland where the US tourists outnumbered the local population in 2016.

So, hurry up if you want to soak into the beauty of Portugal before it turns into a tourist trap.
