AirAsia wins the honour of World’s Best Low-Cost Airline at Skytrax

AirAsia, a Malaysian low-cost carrier, has again won the honour of World’s Best Low-Cost Airline at the Skytrax Airline Awards 2017. The Kuala Lumpur-based airline has now received this award for nine consecutive years.

AirAsia’s sister company in Australia, AirAsia X, has also won the awards for the World’s Best Low-Cost Airline Premium Cabin & Seat for the fifth year in a row. Skytrax is a prestigious award ceremony that has been considered as the Oscars of the aviation industry. The event took place at the Paris Air Show, which was held in Paris Le Bourget Exhibition Centre at Le Bourget Airport on June 21, 2017.

Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz, the Chairman of AirAsia X, was present at the ceremony to accept the accolades. Tony Fernandes, the CEO of AirAsia Group, and Nadda Buranasiri, the chief executive officer of AirAsia X Thailand, were also present there.

On the other hand, Suhaila Hassan, the Cabin Crew Head of the AirAsia Group, received the award for the World’s Best Low-Cost Airline. She said that it had been an incredible experience to see the company’s growth from a Malaysian domestic carrier to one of the best in the world. She hoped that it would keep up its reputation even after expanding the services to Vietnam, China, and beyond.

Mr Fernandes thanked the valued customers for their unequivocal support for the nine subsequent years. He said that they understood the significance of this award and would work continuously for the benefits of their guests and shareholders. He also revealed that their target was to create the biggest Asian community airline in the next 15 years.

Since the introduction of the Skytrax World Airline Awards in 2001, AirAsia and AirAsia X have dominated the event with total 25 awards.
