Adventurers don’t really look up to the Middle Eastern countries thinking that all they have are some deserts and sand dunes. Well, if you are one of them, you are still living in the past! Many countries in that region can vie with any popular holiday destination in the world.

If you are an adrenaline junkie, Oman can be your next destination because no other Gulf region offers such a wide range of outdoor activities.

Sultanate of Oman Tourism’s Country Manager for Australia and New Zealand, Mona Tannous, said that international travellers know Oman mainly as a coastal country with desert and beach experiences. However, the country is also brimming with rocky wilderness, soaring mountains, waterfalls, caves, canyons, and more to satisfy the soul of everyone looking for simple outdoor fun to extreme adventures.

You can bash the dunes with a 4 wheeler or watch the stunning beauty of deserts at sunset while riding a quad bike or camel. If you are into hiking, conquer the challenging terrain of Sun Mountain in Jabal Shams. The highest mountain peak in the country has plenty of arduous trails some of which are literally hanging on the edge of the cliffs. The stunning vistas dotted with olive and juniper trees are a bonus.

You can also enjoy the thrills of abseiling, rock-climbing, scuba diving, kayaking, and snorkelling. There’s also chance to get airborne with kitesurfing at the Masirah Island.
