The Whitsunday Clipper Race Carnival received a great financial boost on September 26 after making the announcement that the event would obtain $200,000 in Federal Government ‘matched’ funding.

Like every year, the next Whitsunday Clipper Race Carnival will finish its Australian leg in January 2018 at Abell Point Marina, Queensland. It will be the Host Port where the fleet of vessels participating in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race will arrive and stay in the Whitsundays from 13 to 29 January. Not only the players but also enthusiastic spectators from across Australia and around the world will visit the Whitsundays to enjoy the extravaganza of sports, entertainment, and foods.

Some of the highlights of the 17-day festival will be a ‘Coast to Cane’ golf day, lunch sailing from one restaurant to another, a long lunch named ‘White on Whitehaven’, and more. Besides, the organisers will host a welcome event in Airlie Beach.

The racing will feature the epic adventure of 12 yachts and 700 crew members crossing 40,000 nautical miles across the world. The race is so popular that it attracts thousands of visitors along with the attention of the international media. The local authority is expecting to have an additional $3 million to the local economy.

The Whitsundays has already gained a reputation as a world-class sailing destination. Tash Wheeler, the Sales & Marketing Manager of Tourism Whitsundays, thought that the sailing competition would further enhance that status. She invited people to come and enjoy the festival activities, many of which will be completely free.
