SilkAir has launched a new aircraft to operate flights to Cairns, Australia. The new airplane to join the fleet is a Boeing 737 MAX 8 that ensures a comfortable and enhanced on-board experience for guests traveling from Singapore to Cairns.
SilkAir is the regional wing of Singapore Airlines – the flag carrier airline of Singapore. It is the first airline to use a MAX 8 to operate flights to Australia. It operated the inaugural flight on Sunday, January 7, to Darwin. The welcome ceremony of the new aircraft included the traditional water cannon arrival. Also, the passengers received a celebratory breakfast at the gate.
The airline will gradually add 37 MAX 8 airplanes to its fleet. It received the first one in October last year. The company’s Chief Executive, Foo Chai Woo was excited to welcome the new aircraft to the fleet. He hoped that it would help the carrier to expand its services to new destinations and offer passengers improved on-board facilities.
The MAX 8 has a capacity of carrying 156 passengers, featuring 144 Economy Class and 12 Business Class seats. The LED lighting and modern windows and sidewalls will offer the guests a refreshed look and feel.
The seats in the Business Class Cabin have seat recline, spacious seat pitch, a side pocket, a USB port, and in-seat power supply. The Business Class guests will also have the privilege of preselecting their main meal from the All Time Favourites menu and drinking freshly-brewed gourmet coffee from illycaffè.
The Economy Class passengers will enjoy more ergonomically designed seats, phone holders, seat-back tablet, and in-seat USB charging port.
Every passenger will get access to SilkAir Studio, SilkAir’s signature in-flight entertainment service. It offers a range of movies, TV shows, and music that the guests can access from their own device.
SilkAir currently operates five non-stop weekly flights from Cairns to Singapore. The MAX 8 will soon operate all the flights in this route.
