The iconic Melbourne Cup has taken a high ride on another Melbourne icon, the Melbourne Star Observation Wheel.

Channel 7 Sunrise presenter, Edwina Bartholomew, rode the Melbourne Star and hung out of the top of a car with the Melbourne Cup in hand.

While standing outside of a cabin at 120m in the air isn’t recommended, the Victorian Racing Club, along with Worksafe and Melbourne Star constructed a specific harness and scaffold to ensure Edwina remained safe during the stunt.

Melbourne Star Management Group CEO, Chris Kelly, said the event showcased a great partnership between the Victoria Racing Club and the Melbourne Star.

“Flemington is a distinct Melbourne landmark that is highly visible from the Star, and we feel honoured to be selected to host the Cup at the conclusion of the Tour,” Mr Kelly said.

“It was fantastic to join in the excitement that the Melbourne Cup Carnival, and the Emirates Melbourne Cup in particular, brings to the city and we look forward to welcoming the Cup again in 2015.”

The ‘race that stops a nation’ takes place on November 4th in Melbourne, Australia.
