The changes to come in Western Australia in 2018 – Part 1

The year 2017 has been fruitful for Western Australia. The state, covering the whole western third of Australia, along with its capital Perth has gone through significant changes due to many development projects and the additions of new experiences. The great news is the changes are going to be bigger in 2018!

The first part will cover the openings of public precincts, accommodation, and the Optus Stadium. You will find news about direct aviation access, Humpback whales, and big screens in the next part.

The Public Precincts

Several public precincts are going to be opened to the public in the coming year. The Yagan Square, located between the CBD and Northbridge, will be a place for meetings and celebrations. It will showcase restaurants, cafes, public art, food market, events, and many other things.

The Scarborough Pool Facility will open its gate on January 22, 2018. The 8-lane, 50-metre beach-side pool will be one of the best beachfront destinations in the country with shops, cafes, restaurants, and entertainment. Just 15 minutes from CBD, it will be a great place for people to have fun, play, and eat.

A non-profit group called Historic Heart of Perth has been operating a project to revitalise the area from Barrack Street in the west to Hill Street in the east. The Kings Square Renewal in Fremantle is another significant project to transform the city into a community, commercial, and cultural hub. The $270 million development scheme will be finished by late 2019.

A number of new and refurbished properties will be added to Perth’s already rich accommodation scenario. Some of the big names are the historic Melbourne Hotel, The Westin, the QT on Barrack Street, the RitzCarlton at Elizabeth Quay, and DoubleTree by Hilton in Northbridge.

The Melbourne Hotel will reopen in CBD in early 2018 after a major refurbishment. The Westin will start its operations from April 2018. Located in the east end of Perth, the five-star hotel will have 368 rooms.

Perth’s Optus Stadium

It will have an official opening on January 21, 2018. With a capacity of hosting 60,000 visitors, it has all the features to be one of the major sporting venues in the country.

There will be a Community Open Day on the opening day, and tickets to that event have already been sold out. It will host cricket, rugby, and soccer matches throughout the year. There will be two live concerts too where international artists Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift will perform.
