The increased competition among airlines has come as a blessing in disguise for the Australian travellers. The Aussies now can enjoy the lowest ever rate for international airfares! Bargain hunters, are you listening?
Flight Centre, an Australia-based international travel company, conducted a study that shows that discount fares to some popular travel destinations from Sydney were nearly 14% lower on average than a year ago.
The company’s general manager of Australian leisure business, Tom Walley, said that the competition between Hawaiian Airline and JetStar Airways helped drop the return fare from Hawaii from $856 to $511, which is almost 40% cheaper. On the other hand, the recent ash clouds incident and the entry of Air Asia to the route dropped the return fare from Bali to Sydney almost 27%. According to Mr Walley, these two destinations could be the hotspots for bargain hunters.

Other things that worked in favour of the Aussie travellers were the increased capacity of the airlines and short-term downturns on some itineraries. As a result, the trans-Tasman fares started falling, giving the travellers the chance to take off to their coveted destinations – from Hawaii to London or from Phuket to Auckland.
However, Mr Walley advised bargain hunters to fix their travel calendar in advance and to grab a deal as early as possible as the airlines tend to offer limited seats on the cheapest deals and make them available for a limited time only.
